3rd grade packet info

Please feel free to color the butterflies. Under the first butterfly, write 3 facts about butterflies. Underneath the second butterfly, write 3 opinions about butterflies.
I also wanted to explain the Understanding Area work page. Here are the answers for the fill in the blanks. Area is the SPACE a shape takes up. It is measured in SQUARE UNITS such as square inches or square centimeters. To find the area simply count the squares. Area is Squarea! Students can learn more about area by watching this video –

Online math learning opportunities
During the next few weeks of “social distancing”, the kids may be looking for things to do. Grade-level practice packets will be available for pick-up outside the Intermediate beginning Tuesday morning. These packets will not be graded, they are just for practice. In addition to those activities, some links are provided below for online activities that maybe played at home.
ONLINE PRACTICE:
1. The kids can continue to practice their math facts using XtraMath. This login information was placed in the front of their student planner at the beginning of the school year. If you are unable to log in, email me at [email protected] I get daily reports on the kids’ progress.
2. Multiplication.com is a free website where students can practice their multiplication facts playing games.
3. GimKit pratice is available in our GoogleClassroom – multiplication, 2-D shapes & *just added” 3-D shapes. If you are unable to locate this information, please email me at [email protected]
4. Education Galaxy is another great website that we have used at school. Their login information is also located in their student planner. If you are unable to locate this information, please email me at [email protected]

Meals during school closure
Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020:
WOISD will offer meals to ALL students in the district. Meals will be served in a
‘drive through’ format from 11am-12 pm daily. Guardians/students are asked to
drive through in front of the secondary (HS/MS) cafeteria on White Oak Road.
Meals will be hand delivered to each vehicle. All school aged children will receive
a meal.
For those guardians/students that are not able to ‘pick-up’ we will home deliver
meals beginning at 12-noon each day. Please call the following number (903-291-
2090) or e-mail [email protected] no later than 10am on Wednesday
morning March 18th so that we can get an approximate number of meals needed.
Please make sure to include an address and any pertinent information.
School meals will be offered to students on the following dates during the current
Covid-19 closure:

Math Learning Goals: 3D Shapes
3.6A(R)- classify and sort two- and three-dimensional figures, including cones, cylinders, spheres, triangular and rectangular prisms, and cubes, based on attributes using formal geometric language
3.6B(S)- use attributes to recognize rhombuses, parallelograms, trapezoids, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories
Math Homework:
Math homework is due this Thursday. It was passed out today, Friday. Please study all of your multiplication facts this week. (0’s-10’s) Students are expected to recall facts to multiply up to 10 by 10 with automaticity.
Multiplication Test: Mad Three Minutes
We will take a multiplication test on Tuesday this week due to benchmarks. The test consists of 30 multiplication problems. Instead of giving one minute, students will be given three minutes. This grade will be averaged with future multiplication tests for one grade in the grade book at the end of the 9 weeks.
Science Learning Goals: Animal Adaptations
3.9A Observe and describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities of plants and animals within an ecosystem.
3.9B Identify and describe the flow of energy in a food chain and predict how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem such as removal of frogs from a pond or bees from a field.
3.9C Describe environmental changes such as floods and droughts where some organisms thrive and other perish or move to locations.
