February 24 – 28

Math Learning Goals:  2D Shapes

3.6A(R)- classify and sort two- and three-dimensional figures, including cones, cylinders, spheres, triangular and rectangular prisms, and cubes, based on attributes using formal geometric language

3.6B(S)- use attributes to recognize rhombuses, parallelograms, trapezoids, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories

Math Homework:

Math homework is due Thursday.  It was passed out today, Friday.   Please study all of your multiplication facts this week.  (0’s-10’s) Students are expected to recall facts to multiply up to 10 by 10 with automaticity.

Multiplication Test: Mad Three Minutes

We will take a multiplication test this Thursday which consists of 30 multiplication problems.   Instead of giving one minute, students will be given three minutes.  This grade will be averaged with future multiplication tests for one grade in the grade book at the end of the 9 weeks.

Science Learning Goals:  Plant Adaptations

3.10A – The student is expected to explore how structures and functions of plants and animals allow them to survive in a particular environment

Important Dates:

Wednesday, February 26:  Early Release- ½ Day- students will be released at 11:30am

February 17 – 21

No School on Monday, February 17th.  Enjoy the three day weekend!

Math LearningGoals: Comparing Fractions

3.3F(R)- represent equivalent fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 using a variety of objects and pictorial models, including number lines

3.3G(S)- explain that two fractions are equivalent if and only if they are both represented by the same point on the number line or represent the same portion of the same size whole for an area model

3.3H(R)- compare two fractions having the same numerator or denominator in problems by reasoning about their sizes and justifying the conclusion using symbols, words, objects, and pictorial models

Multiplication Test: Mad Three Minutes

We will take a practice test this Thursday which consists of 30 multiplication problems.   Instead of giving one minute, students will be given three minutes.  This grade will not be recorded in the grade book.  Please note: This is our last practice.  After this week, tests will be graded and averaged for one-grade book grade.

Science Learning Goals: Food Chains

3.9A Observe and describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities of plants and animals within an ecosystem

3.9B Identify and describe the flow of energy in a food chain and predict how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem such as removal of frogs from a pond or bees from a field

3.9C Describe environmental changes such as floods and droughts where some organisms thrive and other perish or move to locations

Important Dates:

Monday, February 10: PTO Meeting – 6:00pm-7:00pm

Tuesday, February 11:  Math Night 6-7pm  PTO will be selling hotdogs starting at 5:30

February 3 – 7

3.3C- explain that the unit fraction 1/b represents the quantity formed by one part of a whole that has been partitioned into b equal parts where b is a non-zero whole number

3.3D- compose and decompose a fraction a/b with a numerator greater than zero and less than or equal to b as a sum of parts 1/b

3.3E- solve problems involving partitioning an object or set of objects among two or more recipients using pictorial representations of fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.
